FIGURE SKATING: PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
In figure skating, a skater cannot always avoid injuries or falls. This happens most of the times especially to a beginner,
when performing new routines and during practices. Even professionals also fall.
Most of the falls experienced by figure skaters are harmless but it can’t really be avoided to have some serious injuries at times. Some injuries
may just give bruises but there are some which can be traumatic (depending on its impact to the skater).
Due to this, it is important that a skater knows how to control his fall. The skater must know not to show the emotion or feeling that he/she is
hurt. And also the skater must know how to get up correctly after a fall.
Did you know that skaters can practice how to fall safely? Yes, and there are some tips that can help them achieve a safe fall. They can practice
falling with and without their skates. They can practice falling while standing still and also while doing slow movements and while moving
faster. These are done repeatedly so as the skater will know when to anticipate falls. While practicing how to fall it is important to
wear figure skating equipment like gloves or wristguards and knee and elbow pads to avoid injuries or getting hurt. You must always be in control of
your movements and be aware of your body parts. Never use the hands to help break a fall just bend your knees and squat into a dip position to
control your fall.
So always remember that you must always be careful and take the necessary precautions while figure skating.
