THE RIGHT MUSIC FOR FIGURE SKATING
Figure skating music must be the best and must suit the skaters’ performance. So it is important to spend some time in
choosing and deciding the best music for the routine.
It is advisable to choose music from the soundtracks of movies and classical music as well because figure skaters can easily and effectively
exhibit their moves with the use of those kind of music. Many figure skating organizations do not allow songs that contain lyrics unless the
routine is for an artistic performance, exhibition or show.
It is important to choose musical pieces that are suitable to the program the skater is performing and the style he/she is projecting. The
program may be upbeat or slow and the style can either be elegant or powerful or technical or grace. And most of all there must be a clear
exhibition to show and connect the emotion to the music or song.
Here are some of the classical music that can be used: Sonata in A Major, The Entertainer, Conte Partiro by Andrea Bocelli, Rhapsody in Blue by
George Gershwin and Nocturne No. 2 OP.9-2 in E flat major by Chopin. There are also some pop and jazz music which can be included in the list:
Over the Rainbow, Moon River, Memories, You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban and All the Way by Celine Dion. In the list are also some of the upbeat
music, they can be more on the samba or Latin feel which still has the touch of classic and jazz. They are Amando Mio and Let’s Never Stop
Falling in Love. Most of the songs above are instrumental type. Trust me, if you follow figure skating news you may see some of the more
popular figure skaters skating to these "sk8tunes".
Always consider the length of the song that you will need with each performance. For competition, figure skating music must be
precisely timed. Just maintain the feeling and emotion that you need to project and always execute the steps carefully to avoid
problems. Remember that music plays a very important role in figure skating performances.
